:: My Lovely Samsoon ::

Happy New Year!!!

So fast! It's oredi Friday... (Eve of New Year Eve)
Have been watching this Korean show "My Lovely Samsoon"... Very nice show...

This is the story:

Kim Sam Soon is a 29 years old, fat, pastry chef, who has just lost her job and her boyfriend on Christmas Eve. She has all the insecurities of a woman grazing 30. With yet another failed relationship, Sam Soon scrambles desperately to rebuild her career and her love life.

Sam Soon manages to find a job at "Bon Appetite" restaurant when she gets acquainted with the owner of the restaurant, Hyun Jin Heon. Jin Heon is young, handsome but aloof and cold.

Jin Heon is the only son of a hotel chain owner. Although born with a silver spoon, fate had dealt Jin Heon with a hard hand. Three years ago, a fatal car accident, where Jin Heon was the driver, resulted in the death of his elder brother and sister-in-law; and at the very same time his girlfriend of 5 years left him for her studies in the US. Jin Heon had to endure both physical and mental pain to overcome his problems and rebuild his life. The death defying experience left Jin Heon scarred as he stops believing in love and happiness.

Due to a moment of convenience, both Sam Soon and Jin Heon ended up signing a dating contract, where Sam Soon will receive KRW 50 mio (which she needed to redeem her family house) and in turn she will pretend to be Jin Heon's girlfriend to fend off his mother's endless efforts to get him match made and married.

When Jin Heon's ex-girlfriend returns to seek reconciliation; Sam Soon realizes that she has fallen for Jin Heon, and their contractual relationship gets complicated.

Though there is onli 16 episodes but it is a very nice show and it's definitly recommended for all... And Hyun Bin is so handsome... Love him so much...

Alright.. I'm gonna stop for now... And looking forward to tomorrow romantic day with my Dar when we check in to Grand Plaza Park Royal.

:: Rainy Tuesday ::

Rainy morning... Love-hate feeling... Love the sight of rain, love the coldness... But dun like it when I have to rush to work in the rain...

So busy today... So many phone calls, so many emails flying around. Kenna scolding from distributors *but it's not my fault! I'm juz doing my job* Anyway, problem resolved!

Looking through the web for information for the 2 projects. Hmm... Not much findings, or maybe no mood to do so...

Something is bothering me. Whenever I check out something, someone will know about it. Spy? Or what?? I'm going to learn how to keep my mouth shut. Someone did told me, do not be affected by what others say or think. You can't control them. Well, I think these are just my thoughts, hopefully no one quote me again.

:: My KL Trip ::

Juz back from my KL trip on Monday. Went for a 3D2N trip with my parents, sis and dar. Was up early on Sat morning as we need to be at Golden Mile by 7.30am. Book the trip with Five Star Tour and was expecting a pretty decent coach. Gosh! it was a single deck coach, old and bumpy... There is a massive jam along 2nd Link, clear the custom onli at around 11am. Finally we are on our way up to KL. Check in the hotel at around 3.30pm... Stayed in Federal Hotel. It was a grave mistake, hotel is old, air-con not working well, carpet is dirty... Totally disgusted by it. After a short rest, went to Petaling Street (Nothing much, like Ladies Market in HKG). Had tze-char dinner by the road side and was pretty tired after shopping around.

Day 2: Breakfast was terrible. The restaurant was running full and this waitress can only offer us a table for 4 and the other person sitting at the other table. She repeated that a few times and was totally pissed off. I mean, how can u suggest 4 to a table and 1 sit alone. I guess she can sense that I'm exploding tat's why she nv utter a word but juz show us to our table. In the end, Dad, mom and sis took 1 table whereas Dar and me share a table with 2 other guys (they are professors wor) After breakfast, went shopping in Lot 10, Sungei Wang, BB Plaza and Times Square (the usual place) Had lunch at U-Village (a HKG dim sum restaurant in Sungei Wang) The toast is fantastic... Super nice... Ordered some other food as well, but the toast is the best!
Went back to Jalan Alor for dinner. Raining cats and dogs. But we managed to eat the Bak Kut Teh, Wanton mee and grilled fish. (I would say the food is alright). Went back to the hotel for more horror! The towels and toilet paper were not replenish. Worse, the toilet bowl in the room is spoilt! To think that those housekeeper didn't even checked! In the end, Dar had to double as a plumber. Sux!

Day 3: Had breakfast and went Sungei Wang to get some stuff. Had wanton mee at a coffee shop along Jalan Alor. I would say this time round, the wanton mee taste better than the one we had the day before. Back to the hotel to catch the coach. The coach back is much better than the one we came in. More spacious and much cleaner and not so bumpy... Arrived in Singapore by 8 and ard 9 plus when we reached home. Overall, this is still quite a fun trip except for the hotel. I'm gonna boycott this hotel. Never will I stay in there even for free.

:: Just a Thought ::

What are true friends? Those who stood by you but say about your shortcomings to others behind you back?
Well, I guess I can trust no one but myself.

Is being loud a sin? Does being loud make you strong compare to those who doesn't say a thing? I guess I'm being too loud, too talkative thus making myself a nuisance to others... Not onli to my friends, but my own love ones...

Can you trust your love ones too?? I'm having my doubts now... When I talk, you say I talk too much. When I dun utter a word, you say I'm showing my temper. Can someone tell me what to do? It seems like I can't please you in whatever I do.

I wish I can be myself and not be someone to please everyone .

:: Deepavali ::

Yoohoo... Finally there is a public holiday... But I feel that if it is on friday, how nice that will be... Monday work, Tuesday rest, Wednesday work, Thursday rest again and Friday work 1 more day then it is weekend... Just when I'm all tuned to holiday mood I have to work tat 1 day...

Anyway, had a fun day today at the beach with Mr Seah. He came to my place at around 2 then we drove down to Singapore Post Centre NTUC to buy the stuff we needed for our picnic... Bought a can of baked beans, a loaf of bread, turkey ham, chips, tomatoes cherries and some drinks... We brought along a radio and ground sheet and begin our relaxation by the beach... Though it is just the 2 of us, we enjoy the moments... With the wind blowing at our face, beautiful music, what more can I ask for... Spend the whole afternoon there and by sunset we are off to Plaza Singapura to get Manfei's birthday pressie...

After getting the pressie, it is almost 9.30pm... Didn't had our dinner cos we had the sandwiches at the beach... In the end, we head towards Old Airport Market to have our 'dinner'. Ordered Kway chap and char kway teow (Gosh! Calories and cholesterol loaded food, but yummy...) Had our filled and it's back to home sweet home... Gonna work again tomorrow...

:: It's Friday ::

It's Friday, but I dun feel happy... Feeling stressed becos of all the projects! (I hate it manz) Some people just know how to talk, no action. Talk is cheap, I know. But c'mon, dun always use your mouth and onli criticize this and that, do I see you come and do it?

Anyway, had a small dispute the other day (all arguments done via email) Here's the content:

Y: Are these Harvard Referencing Standard? I have attached the Harvard guide for your reference, please follow. Can please put into the report all together....! Sorry if I am a little rude here.

C: All our other projects referencing are done this way from what I know. But I will amend and send it to u guys in the Harvard Referencing Standard. I will insert into the report once I am done with it.

Y: Thanks. Din heard of Harvard ref before..? Eemmmhh....that is the standard adopt by Curtin. Maybe you gals are still "new". Can read from the any Unit Outline, is stated there.

(At this point in time, I'm boiling. So here's my reply to Y)

Me: We have definitely heard of Havard referencing and we are definitely familiar with the standard that Curtin adopt. We are sure of the stuff we do and although there is slight error in the referencing done but not to the extend of condemning us. Hope this clear everything and there should be no more misunderstanding.

I had enuff nonsense from this kind of people... I mean, let's all play a part in the project, hand it in and everything will be fine. Talk about scanning and printing the project, where izzit? Words gone with the wind. (Tsk Tsk Tsk)

:: Presentation for Marcom ::

It's been so long since I last update my blog... (Do you guys miss me??) hahaha
I know, this blog is not as popular as the one that I have in friendster... (Woohoo... I have high viewing rate, so many supporters that time) I purposely create this in blogger to avoid being too high profile (Too popular, pple will be jealous, kekeke)

Anyway, it's been a hectic week... Did my presentation last week... I was so excited... Can't wait to show everyone the video I've done for my TVC in my campaign proposal for JobsDB.com
In the end, CSC likes our presentation, short and sweet... I supposed that someone in the room muz be fuming... But I dun care... Anyway, it is finally a load of my shoulder.. Now that I have one more project to go, I just hope I can perservere till the end... (Why, why am I doing this? Why am I spending $$ to torture myself?? Ultimately, I hope it is all worth it)

:: Personality Test ::

I did this test out of boredom... It was sent to me from Clarice. I find it quite true.
Here's the result:

Your view on yourself:
You are down-to-earth and people like you because you are so straightforward. You are an efficient problem solver because you will listen to both sides of an argument before making a decision that usually appeals to both parties.

The type of girlfriend/boyfriend you are looking for:
You like serious, smart and determined people. You don't judge a book by its cover, so good-looking people aren't necessarily your style. This makes you an attractive person in many people's eyes.

Your readiness to commit to a relationship:
You prefer to get to know a person very well before deciding whether you will commit to the relationship.

The seriousness of your love:
Your have very sensible tactics when approaching the opposite sex. In many ways people find your straightforwardness attractive, so you will find yourself with plenty of dates.
Your views on educationEducation is very important in life. You want to study hard and learn as much as you can.

The right job for you:
You're a practical person and will choose a secure job with a steady income. Knowing what you like to do is important. Find a regular job doing just that and you'll be set for life.
How do you view success:You are afraid of failure and scared to have a go at the career you would like to have in case you don't succeed. Don't give up when you haven't yet even started! Be courageous.

What are you most afraid of:
You are afraid of having no one to rely on in times of trouble. You don't ever want to be unable to take care of yourself. Independence is important to you.

Who is your true self:
You are full of energy and confidence. You are unpredictable, with moods changing as quickly as an ocean. You might occasionally be calm and still, but never for long.

:: The Myth ::

Yesterday, me and Dar went to watch the preview for The Myth (starring Jackie Chan, Tony Leung, Kim Hee-Seon and Mallika Sherawat). Aunt Susie gave me the preview tickets cos she wasn't able to make it. Anyway, we went to watch it Lido Orchard.

Dar has been saying how much he wanted to watch this movie, so perfect timing for the free tickets... (Heehee) I wasn't so keen cos I was thinking it must be another action film by Jackie Chan.

It was a pretty interesting show. Abit confusing cos it shuffles between the Qin dynasty and the modern day. Jackie is an archeologist and Tony is an ambitious scientist in the modern day. Tony wanted to do research about anti-gravity and so got Jackie to help him using his knowledge in archeology. The duo adventure only leads them to greater discovery in Chinese history. Their journey starts at Desar, India, where they stumble upon an ancient sword from the Qin dynasty and a magical gemstone that appears to be able to defy the force of gravity. The booty not only leads them to the mythical mausoleum, but it also connects Jackie to his dark past life...

Watch it with a light heart as this is a fantasy show... Great visual effects... Not a much watch though...

:: Jand Jand is sick ::

My poor Baby Jand Jand fell sick...
This is the 2nd time she make me cry...

We took her out on Friday evening for a jog... We got home around 8pm and she took her dinner... Everything was fine till around 9.30pm, she puke. She puke all that she had taken for lunch and dinner... It was so scary... After that she behave normally... Still running around and kpo-ing... (hahaha). Thought of bringing her to the vet the next morning, she look ok to us on Saturday morning... Then at night when we got home around 11 plus, she started to puke again... She started looking sick, not as inquisitive as ever. We thought it may be she is tired after the Friday run. Sunday morning, she is still eating normally but was quite lazy to move around. Then around 8 plus at night, Daddy call me and say Jand is not eating her dinner... I was so panic... I'm outside with Dar, Jeff and Clarice... I quickly rush home with Dar to bring her to Mt Pleasant Animal Clinic... While on the way, I pray that Jand will be alright... Though she came into our family for only 7 months, she is already the baby of the family...

She look at me with her innocent eyes when the doctor took her temperature and stool sample. She was diagnosed with Amoeba parasites. Some stupid parasites she may have pick up from contaminated water or food when we are outside... Antibiotics was given and she is supposed to take it for 14 days. Then came the bill... It was $117... I thought I heard $170 and I know that the consultation fee is $100 so that bottle of antibiotics cost $70!!! The antibiotics cost $5, the other $12 is for laboratory test for her stool...

Now she is taking her medicine and feeling much better... But she lost so much weight... It hurts me to see her sick and lost weight... I'm not gonna let her be a 'vacuum cleaner' and lick up contaminated water when she is outside... I can't afford this kind of heart attack...

:: Fatal accident along Sims Avenue ::

I was on my way home after school. It was very late as we stayed back for discussion on our Marcom project. I took a cab home, it was around 11.10pm. To my surprise, I got a cab easily outside Paradiz Centre. Travel along Little India via Lavender and soon I was along Geylang. Traffic was really slow. Although the traffic may be slow at times especially with those cars parking by the side and their owners buying durians. It was so slow, I was stuck in the jam for approximately half an hour.

Saw red and blue lights in front, a police car. The taxi driver told me there is an accident in front that explains the crawling traffic. Thinking that it could be just a minor accident whereby usually the injured only have some abrasions. That is not the case. I saw a body. Lying on the road. I was taken aback. Although the body was already covered with a white piece of cloth, I can still see the leg sticking out. The decease is a man, he is wearing a pair of sport shoes. It is the first time I see a fatal accident. The man was hit by a big truck. Headlight of the truck was smashed. I saw the driver of the truck. He too, stood there in a daze. He look lost.

I went home. Still in a daze. If the decease is a local, imagine his family receiving the news of his death right after midnight, how would they feel? If the decease is a foreign worker, his family back in his hometown receive the news, how would they feel too? He came all the way to Singapore, wanting to earn more money so that he can provide a better life to his family back home. Yet, this had to happen to him.

2 days later, it was reported in the news. A small one in Straits Times. It was a 66 year old man. No further report was made. The police are asking for witness to come forward.

:: Single/ In a Relationship/ Married ::

How do we define whether we are single, in a relationship or married?

Single
Is it a gal/guy is not attached to anyone but there are people going after them. They are free to date anyone and yet tell people "I'm single and available"?
Worse, if they are married and tell people "I'm married but available"
Or is it they have a girlfriend/boyfriend yet telling people "We are just friend"?

In a relationship
A gal/guy is only going after someone but says that they are in a relationship?
A couple who are truly in love with each other and ready to step into the next stage of their life (Get married)?

Married
Do you say you are married just because both of you are so in love with each other even though you have been together for only like 2 months (I think that's honeymoon stage)?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maybe it doesn't serve any purpose for this entry... But who cares... I just want to write...
PS: Sometimes I wish I'm single...
:: Reflection ::
Look at me
You may think that you see who I really am
But you'll never know me
Everyday, it's as if I play a part
Now I see, if I wear a mask I can fool the world
But I cannot fool my heart
Who is that girl I see, staring straight back at me?
When will my reflection show who I am inside?
I am now in a world where
I have to hide my heart and what I believe in
But somehow I will show the world
What's inside my heart and be loved for who I am
Who is the girl I see, staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection someone I don't know?
Must I pretend that I'm someone else for all time?
When will my reflection show, who I am inside?
There's a heart that must be free to fly
That burns with the need to know the reason why
Why must we all conceal what we think, how we feel?
Must there be a secret me I'm forced to hide?
I won't pretend that I'm someone else for all time
When will my reflection show who I am inside?
When will my reflection show who I am inside?
:: Decoding a message ::
Yesterday was Marketing Communication lesson. As usual, class was packed with students. Lecturer taught us The Communication Process.
It was all about sender (advertiser) have a message, need to encode (into advertisement), need to have the message transmit through some channel (media i.e TV, radio, newspaper), then decode the message (into plain text), transmitted to receiver (targeted audience).
But you see, different people have different perspective, viewpoints when decoding a message. The lecturer cite a very interesting example that leads me to think of something that had ever took place. Here goes the example:
2 cars travelling side by side. One of the driver shouted to the other, "PIG!!!". Upon hearing that, the driver got so infuriated that she shouted back, "BITCH!!!". Not long after, the driver who shouted 'BITCH' ran over a pig. Not only did she killed the poor pig, she was injured and landed in the hospital. The driver who shouted "PIG" was trying to tell the other driver there is a pig in front but that driver misunderstood her intention and thought she was hurling abusive words at her.
This is an example of miscoding a person message. How many times did misunderstand another person because of the words used in a message?
I will remember this lesson and learn to listen with a open heart, that way, we will not have unnecessary misunderstandings...
:: What a Class ::
Yesterday was the first lesson for Advertising 211. It was a pretty small class (only about 30+ students). Lecturer was a pretty 'cool and funky' lady... With her hair cropped so short, it is not difficult to guess she must be in the design, advertising industry (She juz seems to have the 'artistic' air around her, alright)
My new classmates pretty much keep to themselves. Either loner or keep to their own clique of 2. (Or maybe they are juz shy to approach others?) Each of them have their own style... At that point of time, I think a design school will be a much better choice for them... (Very individualistic people who doesn't care a hoot about what others think of their fashion sense). One-third of them are Chinese Nationals (Gosh! Why are they in this class??) Well... can't complain, they pay school fees too...
Anyway, this class is so quiet, unlike of an Advertising class... (I think, if I'm the lecturer, I feel so pissed. No participation from the class at all)...
Got to know a lady and a guy. Supposed to be my new group mates, but didn't even introduce each other or exchange phone numbers. That leaves me wondering if we will still be doing the project together or not. Heard the lecturer saying she doesn't restrict how many in a group. However, if it is just 2 person in a group, it may be a bit taxing and intense as we need to find a branded product, find 3 different advertisements of that product, use 'reverse engineer' to analyse the advertisement, re-create an advertisement and sell our idea to the company. Sounds easy but when it come to doing it, I bet it is not easy.
Guess, I've got to take each step at a time, see if things will turn out better next week. If not, I will be a walking zombie soon...
:: Spotted Hyena - Crocuta crocuta ::
Classification & Range
Spotted hyenas are the largest member of the family Hyaenidae. This family also includes three other hyena species, the aardwolf (found in south, east and northeast Africa); the striped hyena (Hyaena hyaena), found in northern Africa, southwest Asia and India; and the brown hyena (Parahyaena brunnea), which is found in limited areas of southern Africa, except most of South Africa. Spotted hyenas range throughout most of Africa south of the Sahara, except for the rain forests and most of South Africa. They once lived in South Africa but were eliminated in much of that region. Hyena populations have also been severely reduced in some savanna plains areas.
Physical Description
Male weight is 123-138 lb, height 32-34 inches; female weight is 147-165 lb, height 34-35 inches. They have a sturdy build, long neck, high shoulders, and long muscular legs, with the forelegs longer than hind legs and four toes on each foot with non-retractile claws. The head is massive with rounded ears and robust teeth adapted for chewing bones. The coat is rough, comparatively short, and ranges in color from reddish-brown to tan, growing lighter and less spotted with age. Spots are black and rounded. Tail tip, muzzle and lower parts of limbs are dark brown. A slight mane may be present on neck and shoulder.
Diet and Hunting Behavior
Hyenas hunt alone or in packs led by their female leader, and kill by tearing their prey apart. Typical prey species are herbivorous mammals, and include gazelle, water buffalo, zebra, warthog, and young giraffe, rhinoceros, and hippopotamus. However, they have been observed feeding on a wide variety of prey, including mammals, birds, fish and reptiles. Spotted hyenas have been known to kill and scavenge off of domestic livestock, such as cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, horses, donkeys, camels and even cats and dogs. They can and do feed on carrion, as most predatory species do, but it only makes up less than 5% of their total diet.
Hunting is usually at night, but they sometimes hunt during the day. They tend to hunt alone or in small groups of 2-5 individuals. They detect their prey using sight, hearing and smell. Hyenas will travel extinsively throughout their territory in search of prey. Some hyenas have been known to travel for 42-80 km in search of adequate prey sources. Once prey is found, the group will travel up to 2-3 km in active pursuit of prey, and can run at speeds of up to 60 km/hr. The group will often run through a herd of ungulates to single out an individual. Though they will usually catch diseased, weak, very young or very old individuals, healthy prey items are often taken. They kill their prey by severing the major arteries and veins in the neck and by disemboweling. Usually after a kill, the females will disperse with pieces of the kill and eat at a distance. Males and females may will fight over food, but the female usually is the winner because of her massive size. One hyena can eat 14.5 kg per meal. Hyenas have been known to cache food underwater.
Relationship with other Predators
Hyenas will often steal kills from the smaller felids, such as cheetahs and leopards. They will watch a cheetah make a kill, then chase the exhausted cat away from its kill, since the cheetah is not strong enough to fight off the larger hyena, nor able to sustain severe injuries, since any injuries to the cheetah will impair its ability to hunt. A pack of hyenas will actually harass a leopard out of its meal, following the leopard until it climbs up into a tree and harass it from the ground, waiting for it to drop its kill to them below. They will sometimes catch the leopard with its kill before it has a chance to escape, and since a single leopard cannot fend off a pack of hyenas, it abandons its kill. Silver backed jackals pose no threat to the larger hyenas, who see them as more of a nuisance than an actual competitor. The more agile jackals will dart in and out of a kill that hyenas are feeding off of, and may even be so bold as to join them while they are eating. African wild dogs also compete with hyenas over food, and often steal the wild dog's kills. However, since African wild dogs travel in such large numbers, they can intimidate a hyena and have a better chance of protecting their kills. Wild dogs have been seen often stealing kills from hyenas just as often. Since the other predators in Africa, such as the serval, caracal, and other small wildcats, usually feed on small prey like rodents and birds, they are not in direct competition with the hyena, and thus have little to worry about.
The most dramatic relationship, however, is between hyenas and Africa's largest predator, the African lion. There seems to be a constant war between these two gregarious species, and it is not always over food, either. Normally, boundaries of another species are disregarded, but not in the case of the hyena and lion. They will put up boundaries against each other as they would against members of their same species, and threaten each other at the borders with snarls, roars, urine, and paste. If one should happen to wander into the other's territory, it will be mauled by a gang from the other species. A pack of hyenas can easily kill a lioness, and are enough to intimidate an entire pride. Hyenas will kill lion cubs, and lions will kill both adult and juvenile hyenas. Lions will steal hyenas' kills just as many times as hyenas steal kills from lions. Sometimes, a neighboring clan and pride will wage a war with each other, usually in the dry season during a severe famine or drought, when resources are low. One will start, and invade the other's territory, and intimidate the other into leaving the area. Often, prides with more than one male are at the advantage, and are less the target of hyenas as would be prides with one or no males, since male lions are the only thing that truly intimidate a hyena. The lion is the only natural predator of the hyena.
Fascinating Facts
- Determining the sex of males and females is difficult, because their reproductive organs appear similar!
- Hyenas were not scientifically studied in their natural habitat until the 1960s!
- The spotted hyena is a very noisy animal. A spotted hyena will make a giggling noise including a long, manic whoop best transcribed as "oooooh-WHUP!." None of these sounds indicate humor as humans know it.
In case you are interested in seeing one with your own eyes, most zoos don't care to display hyenas, because there still isn't much public demand. People still think of hyenas as cowardly, ugly scavengers.
Here's a picture of a spotted Hyena.
Here's [a poor-quality AU file] of their cries.
I am no big lover of Hyenas but I have this sudden interest in them after a friend of mine told me about this animal that will make a giggling noise including a long, manic whoop best transcribed as "oooooh-WHUP!." This is their way of expressing their intense fear or excitement.
